I manipulate space, light, and shadow to create an atmosphere the viewer can enter without interruption.

About

Raised in New York’s Hudson River Valley, Tina Sotis always had an artistic bent, but she didn’t begin painting in earnest until 1992, a couple of years after moving to Phoenix. She credits two things: the white-hot light of the desert, so unlike the light she grew up with, and a thriving community of artists around her who encouraged and influenced her work. Her first solo show opened in January 1996 at Karen Casey Gallery, and she has since shown in more than thirty exhibitions, from Arizona to England.

Her early work is architectural: streets, rooms and doorways built from light and dark. After her father died in 2006, the buildings fell away and the sea and sky took over. She lives in North Adams, Massachusetts.
